On our journey of growth, we inevitably encounter various conflicts and injuries. Each individual responds differently to trauma. Even after distancing ourselves from the original traumatic experiences and environments, the pain of the past may still continue to affect us. The coping mechanisms we once developed to protect ourselves may also bring new challenges. Therefore, when students exhibit behaviors such as resistance, loss of control, silence, or repeated absences on campus, what we may see are not just "problem behaviors," but rather self-protective strategies formed after experiencing trauma. This workshop will integrate trauma-informed approaches, Social and Emotional Learning (SEL), and mental health education to help faculty and staff understand trauma responses and common mental health issues among students. By adopting a more diverse perspective, we aim to understand the possible underlying causes of these behaviors and foster greater understanding and tolerance among each other.
