※Master~s and doctoral students interested in applying to conduct thesis research abroad are welcome to submit an application.

I. Purpose of the Program
This program aims to support the University~s students in conducting master~s or doctoral thesis research overseas. Through transnational research and international collaboration, it seeks to enhance the University~s overall research capabilities, promote international academic exchange, and cultivate research talent with an international perspective and outstanding research abilities.

II. Eligibility
Any currently enrolled master~s or doctoral student at this university who maintains valid student status during the period of overseas research and possesses a valid visa or residence permit is eligible to apply for this program. At the time of grant approval and reimbursement, the recipient must be a formally enrolled student at this university and may not be on leave of absence or have transferred to another institution.
(1) At the time of application, the applicant~s academic advisor must have an approved internal (excluding individual-level university grants) or external research project that can provide academic or research resources, and must consent to the applicant~s application for this program.
(2) The research proposal must be reviewed and approved by the supervising professor and the applicant~s department, and both must consent to the applicant~s travel abroad for data collection, experiments, or related research work. In principle, applicants may apply only after passing the department~s required proposal defense or qualifying examination; if the department has no such requirement, this step is waived.
(3) The purpose of this overseas trip must be to conduct core research for the master~s or doctoral dissertation (e.g., fieldwork, database construction or collection, operation of specialized instruments, collection of critical samples, or acquisition of key technologies). The applicant must submit a research plan for overseas work that demonstrates high necessity and feasibility, aligning with the research themes of the University~s research centers or with research plans related to priority development countries designated by the University based on the student~s country of origin.
(4) Doctoral students of Taiwanese nationality applying for this program must first apply for the National Science Council~s “Grant Program for Doctoral Students to Conduct Research Abroad” before submitting an application for this program.

III. Duration of Support
The duration of overseas research supported under this program shall generally not exceed 180 days.
If an extension of the overseas research period is required due to research needs, an extension application must be submitted before the expiration of the originally approved support period; an extension may only be granted upon review and approval.

IV. Scope of Application
The scope of support under this program is limited to University students conducting master~s or doctoral thesis research abroad.

V. Application Procedures
Applications for this program will be reviewed on a first-come, first-served basis. Applicants must submit the following materials:
(1) Proof of student status (student ID card or proof of enrollment).
(2) Attachment 1: Application Form.
(3) Attachment 2: Supervisor is publication record and research project implementation status for the past three years.
(4) Attachment 3: Research proposal and description of the overseas research plan, which must specify the research objectives, background, methodology, and expected outcomes, and clearly explain the direct relevance of this overseas research to the original research plan and the master is or doctoral thesis.
(5) Attachment 4: A letter of recommendation from the supervising professor and a document signed by the department head, certifying that the research proposal has completed the review process.
(6) Proof of cooperation or hosting from the overseas research institution (e.g., an invitation letter), or a contact list and consent letters from data providers or collaborators, confirming that research assistance or guidance can be provided (not required if none exists).
(7) The proposal or thesis that has passed the oral defense (not required if not applicable).

VI. Review and Implementation Timeline
The Office of Research and Development will determine the list of recipients for funding approval based on the number of applications and the annual budget allocation for the current year, following review by the Research and Development Committee. If necessary, experts in relevant fields may be invited to assist in the review.
The key review criteria of the Research and Development Committee are as follows:
(1) The necessity and innovativeness of the research proposal.
(2) The feasibility and expected benefits of the research plan for conducting master is or doctoral thesis research abroad.
(3) The applicant is potential for academic development.
(4) The supervising professor is recommendation and research support capabilities.
(5) The reasonableness of the budget allocation.

VII. Grant Amount and Funding Usage Regulations
This program covers round-trip airfare and research stipends.
(1) Round-trip Airfare (Reimbursement Based on Actual Expenses)
The grant covers the cost of round-trip economy-class airfare for overseas research, reimbursed based on the actual ticket price. Recipients must submit ticket stubs or proof of electronic tickets, boarding pass stubs, and relevant receipts within the specified timeframe (generally within one month of returning to Taiwan) to process reimbursement in accordance with the university is regulations.
(2) Research Stipend (Lump Sum Stipend) (Fixed-Amount Grant)
The research stipend is intended to cover necessary expenses incurred during the student is research period abroad, including but not limited to local transportation and travel expenses, accommodation and living expenses, research-related expenditures (such as ethics review applications, patient recruitment fees, experimental consumables, and database usage fees), administrative and insurance fees, equipment rental, and other miscellaneous expenses.
The research stipend is disbursed as a lump-sum grant. Recipients are not required to submit individual receipts for reimbursement; however, they must submit a final report upon returning to Taiwan, detailing the effectiveness of the funds i utilization, which will serve as the basis for closing the grant.
