On 11th May (Sunday), Tzu Chi will hold its first Global Buddha Bathing Day, which coincides with Mother’s Day, Buddha Day and Tzu Chi Day. This year is Tzu Chi’s 59th Anniversary, we invite all students and staffs, as well as the public to participate in the ceremony. The ceremony will be solemn and dignified.
Earlier this year, a devastating wildfire broke out in Southern California on January 7. It was the largest natural disaster in nearly a hundred years. The local Tzu Chi volunteer provided financial assistance, environmental friendly blankets, emergency food and clothing for the victim at the first time. Local Tzu Chi volunteer are also preparing long-term reconstruction plans in order to provide further support to the victims. On 21st January, a magnitude 6.4 earthquake struck Dapu Township in Chiayi, with a depth of only 9.7 kilometers. Disaster reports continued to be received from Nanxi and Yujing areas of Tainan. Tzu Chi volunteers immediately distributed hot meals and care on site, and have assisted in the repair of 269 houses.
On the afternoon of March 28, a magnitude 8.2 strong earthquake struck Myanmar. Not only reports of collapsed building and broken bridges were emerged in the area, but reports also emerged from neighbouring country like Thailand and Yunnan, China. The number of injuries and deaths had exceeded 5,000 as of 30th March. On the day when earthquake hits, Tzu Chi Hualien Headquarters immediately activated the emergency response mechanism, prepared disaster relief supplies, and maintained close contact with local volunteers. In addition, Tzu Chi International Disaster Relief Supplies were also prepared and waiting for release of the Myanmar government so that the supplies could be delivered immediately.
We have experienced several shocking lessons from our mother nature and realised how fragile life is. We can also empathize with the current experiences of disaster victims in various countries and pray together that the victims can overcome their suffering as soon as possible.
We sincerely invite you to join the Buddha Bathing Ceremony with the most sincere and respectful heart, wash away the ignorance and troubles in your heart, return to the pure and innocent heart, and pray that your sincere voice can gather blessings and eliminate disasters.
