**Guidance for Students Receiving Educational Loans**
Students who have applied for educational loans are reminded to strictly adhere to the repayment terms outlined in their loan agreements or to utilize mechanisms such as deferred principal payments or extended repayment periods. It is essential to avoid late repayments, as this may adversely affect their personal credit.
**Repayment Guidelines**
**Question 35: What should students do if they are unable to repay the principal and interest of their educational loan on time? What are the consequences of late repayment?**
(1) Educational loans are not gifts or welfare subsidies provided by the government, but rather a form of preferential loan. Therefore, students must still repay the principal and interest according to the terms specified in their loan agreements. If students are unable to make timely repayments due to unforeseen circumstances, they should promptly and proactively contact the relevant branches of this bank to discuss their situation. The bank will assess the borrower's financial status and circumstances to determine whether they are eligible to apply for deferred principal payments or an extension of the repayment period, thereby alleviating their repayment burden. However, any application for such adjustments involves changes to the repayment amount, term, and related conditions, and must be processed in accordance with regulations set by the Ministry of Education. After obtaining the consent and signatures of the co-guarantor on any supplementary agreements or related documents, students must comply with the new repayment terms.
(2) In the event of late repayment, this bank will initiate legal proceedings against both the student and the co-guarantor to recover the outstanding amount. The Financial Credit Information Center will also record the student and co-guarantor as having a poor credit history and will make this information available to all financial institutions. This negative credit record may not only affect the creditworthiness of the student and co-guarantor but could also result in the rejection of future applications for checks, credit cards, or other types of loans. Additionally, it may impact the student's and co-guarantor's prospects for employment or further education, both domestically and internationally. Please take note of these potential consequences.
